It's Not Cool to Be Cold

Updated: Jan 4

As we start to layer up for winter weather, it is important to make sure our k-9 friends are staying safe and warm with us! Once the temperature drops below 45 degrees, depending on the size and coat, some dogs will start to be uncomfortably chilly when out for too long. Check out these signals that it is time for your dog to go inside:

  1. Shaking or shivering.

  2. Hunched posture with a tucked tail.

  3. Whining or barking.

  4. Change in behavior, for example seeming anxious or uncomfortable.

  5. Reluctance to keep walking or tries to turn around.

  6. Seeks places for shelter.

  7. Lifts their paw off the ground.

It is important for dogs to be groomed in the wintertime to keep their coat healthy & free from tangles and mats. Winter grooming also keeps a dog’s nails intact preventing pain and discomfort.
